Hi! My name is Alan Eckert and I teach beginning, intermediate and advanced drum set as well as percussion and piano. I have taught for over ten years, including the past three in the Austin area at Georgetown Music Academy and Sense and Color School of Music. After attending the University of North Texas as a Jazz Studies Scholarship recipient, I moved to Austin, Texas and started playing in various groups in the area, composing, producing and recording. My Austin experience has included famed music venues and festivals such as Stubb’s BBQ Outdoor Amphitheater, Austin 360 Amphitheater, Art Outside, Utopia Fest, SXSW, Euphoria, Head for the Hills and Kerrville Folk Festival. I have also had the privilege of doing numerous KUTX Studio 1A tapings and recordings at Austin studios such as OM Recording Facility, Shine Studios, Good Danny’s, Werd, Austin Signal and Lava Studios.

Teaching Philosophy

I bring my experience in all corners of the music industry into the lesson while meeting each student’s individual needs.  Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, and the key to success is ENJOYMENT! While reading skills, coordination skills, rudiments, scales and fundamentals are a major focus in the lessons, I strive to explore the music that the students love listening to.  Discovering music that is special to you and learning from it has endless benefits.  I encourage playing along to songs that students enjoy.  This keeps things fun and makes the fundamentals more relevant as you are applying them in a musical way.
